Loop Head Lighthouse is a working lighthouse on the tip of the Loop Head Peninsula, guarding the entrance to the River Shannon since a light was first lit here in 1670; the current tower dates from 1854 and was automated in 1991. Visitors can climb the tower on a guided tour for panoramic Atlantic views, weather permitting.
