Youghal Lighthouse

A lighthouse perched on the old town walls, watching over the mouth of the Blackwater estuary.

Worth the wander

Youghal Lighthouse was built around 1850 at the entrance to Youghal Bay where the Blackwater meets the sea, replacing an earlier light that had stood within the walled town; it was converted to electric operation in 1964 and remains an active aid to navigation.
