Garnish Island (Ilnacullin)
A sub-tropical Italianate garden on its own island in Bantry Bay, reachable only by boat.
Worth the wander
Ilnacullin (Garnish Island) is a planned Italianate garden laid out from 1910 by architect Harold Peto for owner Annan Bryce, bequeathed to the Irish state in 1953 and now run by the OPW; a Martello tower from the Napoleonic Wars still stands near the landing.
